I’m in the Weeds – Are You?

In Complacency, Spiritual Growth, Work by Amber Beane

We work so hard on different things…perhaps it’s work, to be healthy, even to be spiritually fit.

I worked on my flower beds this morning – and I worked hard on them too! Physically, almost killing myself with a hoe to drudge up all the weeds! Only to find that because I hadn’t been maintaining the flower beds – the weeds had sprung up again, making all that hard work feel like it was for nothing.

The same can be said for those other areas we work hard at too.

At work

If we stop and don’t continue to work hard to better the work that God has purposley put us in, the weeds begin
to grow. We get behind and create more work to get back where we were.

Perhaps we work hard at being in good health. If we go off the beaten path and eat what we want all the time and
disregard our body as a temple – then the weeds of unhealth in weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, fatigue,
joints hurting and so-on suddenly appear.

Spiritually this happens too.

I recognize that when I deepen my relationship with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, I have freshly fertilized soil. This fertilization happens through the most beautiful, quiet-times in the pressence of God, through intense and disciplined study, continuous prayer, even moments with strangers that are truly divine interventions. I begin seeing, more clearly, my purpose.

Then, a weed sprouts up…

One of fear, self doubt, pride and insecurity. The tug of war begins. This is why I believe God says in the bible
to pray with out ceasing, to be in fellowship with other believers, to read His word (God’s truth) day and night, to be still
in His presence. This is so that we might be full of the spirit and recieve the peace the Father wants to so sweetly give us.

When we align ourselves in this way – we are essentially covering our hearts and minds with weed killer! Preventing weeds
from taking root in our lives, and letting the Lord reign in the garden of our hearts. Allowing us to flourish.

This is beautiful, amazing, lovely – the sweet aroma of the spirit overwhelms us and we experience euphoria, peace,
and satisfaction. Be prepared though – because those weeds in our life that are our strongholds that Satan uses to kill,
steal and destroy, will quietly sprout up and take over before we know it. Those little weeds become stalks that
spread like wildfire – followed by chaos, confusion, uncertaintiy, an unclear direction.

Suddenly it feels like the air supply to life is cut and we are suffocating.

Let me just say this based upon my own expereience, weeds will sprout up in life, though I will do my best to
avoid them.

I am human and I am imperfect.

Thankfully I/we have a Father that extends grace and mercy and sent His son Jesus to die for our brokenness. I will do my best to committ to the Lord, my life – spirtually, mentally, emotionally, and physically – to what He calls to me. However, I certainly can’t do this on my own, but God CAN. He is big enough, deep enough, and wide enough to walk with me through it ALL and when I get overrun with weeds His grace is just as big to rescue me from the muck and mire that I inevidbly bind myself in.

God thinks I am worth rescuing and He thinks you are too!
